Career History

Eng. Khalid Al Salem is the Director General of the Saudi Authority for Industrial Estates and Technology Zones (MODON) since September 2017. He is also the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources for Industry Affairs. Before joining MODON, he was serving as president of the National Program for the Development of Industrial Clusters in 2015. Prior to that, in 2014, he was the Vice President of the Plastic Industries and Packaging in the same Program. He supported the chemical and plastic manufacturing industries and led the establishment of a consortium to develop the pharmaceutical industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.


Mr. Al Salem has more than 22 years of experience gained while he was working with the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), where he participated in many research and technical tasks, including research preparation, technology development, factory performance improvement, initial plant operation and customer services.


He was responsible for establishing research and development institutions for chemicals and polymers in the Kingdom, the US, India and China. During that period, the leadership of Mr. Al-Salem enabled SABIC to successfully commercialize a wide range of innovative technologies (Acetic olefins alpha linear acids).

Mr. Khalid Al-Salem is a holder of a Master's degree in Business Administration from Thunderbird University in the United States of America and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia​
